What is ICANN?

International Community Association of Nizhny Novgorod (ICANN) was established in 1997. ICANN provides international businesses and foreign businessmen the ability to network and meet local government officials in a friendly atmosphere. ICANN has streamlined the networking process for those interested in the growing economy of Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga region.

Located in Nizhny Novgorod, ICANN is in the heart of the economic and political hub of the Volga region. Historically, the Volga region was the intellectual center for the nuclear defense industry. The region has turned that same intensity towards technology and business, providing opportunities to those with the right connections.

ICANN is an organization FOR foreigners by foreigners.

ICANN Members

ICANN members span all sectors of international business in Nizhny Novgorod. Many influential international corporations are ICANN members, including Intel, Microsoft, KPMG, IKEA, and many others. For more information about ICANN members, refer to Members.

Meetings and Events?

ICANN’s monthly meetings cover a wide variety of topics and activities related to the region, both formal and informal. ICANN hosts formal meetings with the Governor, Mayor as well as other local officials and arranges less formal activities such as wine tasting events. Past events have included visits to local monasteries, trips to the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum in the Kremlin, and Women’s Day parties.

The following are some of ICANN’s regularly scheduled events and meetings:

  • Business breakfasts which bring together representatives of the local administration, visa and immigration authorities, customs officers, and other officials. This setting makes it easier for members to voice any concerns and issues particular to each company.
  • “Thursdays with Walter” are informal social gatherings that take place at local restaurants. The casual nature of these meetings allows members to discuss the latest news of their company, pick up useful tips, and network. “Thursdays with Walter” are held on the third Thursday of each month.
  • Annual Meeting with the Governor is a formal event of high importance. This gives ICANN members a chance to address their questions directly to the head of the region’s government. The meeting is usually followed by a buffet.
  • Mayor’s Christmas Reception is a semi-formal event that the mayor’s administration holds for ICANN members at the end of the year to celebrate the holidays in a friendly atmosphere and exchange current information.
  • ICANN’s Annual Reception is a big-time party organized every winter or spring. This is an opportunity for ICANN to thank all the guest speakers for their expertise.

Sounds good to me, how do I join?

Joining is very easy.

1) Contact the ICANN Coordinator and fill out an application form.

2) Pay the annual fee.

We have 2 kinds of membership:

  • Corporate Membership. ICANN’s Corporate Members have full access to all events and activities organized by the ICANN. The membership fee is 18,000 Rubles per annum. We recommend this membership type to all organizations and businesses joining the ICANN.
  • Individual Membership. ICANN’s Individual Members (5,000 Rubles per annum) have access only to ICANN’s Regular Meetings and Thursdays with Walter. This type of membership may suit individuals that are new to Nizhny Novgorod and wish to find their way around the place and have fun.
